What’s it all about – Charleys a wrap for 2020/21

Charley's was begun by Chris and Lynn Jahnke in 2012 with a dream to grow international award-winning Cocoa in Australia, make trophy winning Chocolate and sell to a discerning customer base.

From the start our business has been all of the primary production of cocoa growing, manufacturing of chocolate, innovative marketing and an integrated tourism experience. All this at lovely Mission Beach, Far North Queensland, Australia.

The 2021 report card - how are we doing?

As chair of Australian Chocolate Pty ltd (Charley's) one of my roles is to chair the AGM – 5th November this year and via Zoom. That’s lockdown for us.

The AGM is the opportunity to reflect our progress with our 160 shareholders. Some shareholders have been with us since 2014, others from the 2108 Crowd Sourcing.

Here in 2021, Charley's can report:

  • We grow award winning cocoa in Australia
  • We regularly win local and global awards for our Australian grown cocoa and
  • Australian made chocolate
  • We specialise uniquely in high quality tree to bar chocolate; as well as bean to bar
  • lines.
  • We live our values of sustainability in all we do – packaging, ingredients sourcing, plantation management.

As well as that

  • In 2020 and 2021 we transitioned from small scale premium chocolate maker to a larger one, with the help of the shareholders who participated in the 2018 Crowd Source Funding
  • As a result we made our first profit in 2020/21
  • We use cocoa beans sourced from our own plantation, local FNQ growers and our near neighbours; think PNG, Solomon's – no slave labour
  • We support local Australian / FNQ suppliers. Davidsons Plum and Beach Coconut are gown locally.
  • You can find us in an increasing number of outlets in Queensland and the Eastern States
  • We are involved in the community and support local activities
  • We appreciate the support we get from the research team at the Qld Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Centre for Wet Tropics Agriculture at South Johnstone.
  • We support industry building initiatives such as the 2021 AgriFutures Research, Development and Extension initiative.

Please support us as we try and do good things for Australia and the planet.
