July in Mission Beach
Posted by Ruth Medd on 1st Aug 2025
My July visit to Mission Beach included
- Charley’s board and other meetings
- As the major sponsor, opening the ‘green – fields’ exhibition at the Community Arts centre which is worth a visit. Next to local swimming centre.
- Checking out progress with the Mission Beach Village redevelopment and the Cassowary Overpass
- All with sublime weather.
Green-fields is the latest exhibition of works by five North Queensland artists (Carol Giuliany, Lynda Hannah-Williams, Bruce Parry, S. Pullman and Patricia Voltz), known collectively as the "green" painters. Formed in 2010, this group has exhibited on five previous occasions at Mission Arts. A range of diverse painting styles, techniques and mediums (oil, acrylic and watercolour) expressing various themes are on display. View the exhibition catalogue online.
Charley’s has a policy to support local community activities. This is our third time sponsoring a Green exhibition. Some of the pictures that took my eye.
Mission Beach Village redevelopment – there is progress, especially with the village green.
Opinions vary as to the impact on Mission Beach shop owners. Some have closed. On a positive? note, the single line main road with attractive usually red traffic lights had long lines of cars waiting their turn to travel. Tourism has picked up since my last visit.
Cassowary Overpass
The saga continues. There appears to be some growth on the trees atop the overpass; if you look closely.

Unlike the cassowary overpass trees, Charley’s Block 4 continues to progress. The first pods have now been harvested. Not a big task given there are a couple of dozen only. But it’s a great start after 2 years and 2 months from planting.
Comments / contributions are welcome.
